REVERSIBLE VEST PART 2
March 9 @ 10:00 am - 4:00 pm
PLEASE SIGN UP AT REVERSIBLE VEST CLASS PART 1 ON SATURDAY, 2/24, 10-12pm
Mix and match fabrics to come up with your own unique vest! Using Grainline Studio’s Tamarack Jacket pattern we will be making a versatile reversible quilted vest. Techniques include how to make quilted pattern pieces on your domestic machine or a longarm machine, Hong Kong seam bindings, binding the final vest and using a zipper or tab button closures.
The first part of this class will focus on how to plan your layout and cut out pattern pieces, backing and batting allowing for quilting “shrink”. Options for quilting the sandwiched pattern pieces will be discussed. Vests from the instructor’s collection will be reviewed. The second part of the class (Saturday 3/9 10-4pm) will consist of the final cutting of the pattern pieces, after the pieces have been quilted. In class we will construct the vest and concentrate on the seam finishes. All raw seams will be bound with matching or contrasting bias fabric in the Hong Kong seam binding technique so that your vest can be worn on the reverse side. Final bias binding application for the garment’s outer edges is done at home. Sign up for both parts of class here.
The instructor is Janet Cass, a former hand weaver and graphic designer turned quilter in the past 5 years. She is an award winning quilter, has shown her quilts at the Cocheco Quilt Show and MQX. Recently she has turned her sewing and quilting focus to quilted vests and jackets.
