SUMMARY:MIMOSA QUILTED VEST PART 1
DESCRIPTION:The Mimosa Quilted Vest is an intermediate sewing class teaching techniques to make and alter a traditional vest garment into a quilted and potentially reversible vest. Using the Sewing Workshop Mimosa Vest pattern we will use the major pattern pieces to form the basis of the vest. Then we will delve into techniques from quilting to make your own quilted vest with decorative\, finished seams.\n\n1st class  1/24/16 10-12pm\n\nWe will be discussing and planning your vest: No need for your sewing machine.\n\nI will bring a variety of vests I have made to show you options for fabrics and finishing.\nBest fabrics and batting to use – if you have fabric(s) on hand you want to use\, please bring it/them to the class.\nAdjustments that might need to be made and can be easily made.\nYou might want to go ahead prior to the 1st class and make a quick single layer muslin version of your vest to gauge the fit and help plan adjustments. Bring this muslin garment to class if you make one.\nDo not cut your final fabrics out until after you attend this class.\nBring a notebook and phone to take photos to refer to.\nIf you like you may pick another simple 3 piece vest pattern. The techniques learned in this class can be applied to more complex garments in the future.\nHOMEWORK – between classes – Quilting of your pattern pieces to be done as HOMEWORK between classes. Some students may want to longarm their pattern pieces.  We will discuss how best to longarm the pattern pieces. You can also use your domestic machine to quilt the pieces.\nCut out your pattern pieces\, baste and quilt them. Retrim your pieces to size. Cut your bias strips for the decorative seam finishes and make your bias binding for your vest edge finishing.\n\n\n2nd Class (2 weeks later) 2/7/26 10-4pm\n\n\nBring your 3 quilted pattern pieces and items on the Class Supply List to this class along with your sewing machine (please bring your machine’s manual with you just in case).\nThis class will focus on putting the pattern pieces together.\nYou will learn how to create finished/decorative seams\, so there are no raw edges to your garment. This can make your vest reversible.\n\n \n
